The Children’s Museum of the East End (CMEE) is pleased to host “Dictionary Daze,” an exhibition by renowned artist, Peter Tunney, now through Labor Day. Consisting of 26 silkscreened collages—one for each letter of the alphabet—the exhibition comes to CMEE through a partnership with The Peace Project Inc., a non-profit organization which aims to promote safe, peaceful, and tolerant communities.

“Each piece featured in Dictionary Daze corresponds to a letter in the alphabet, bringing it to life with an image that is as vibrant as it is inspirational,” said Aima Raza, CMEE Trustee and the founder of The Peace Project, Inc. “What a wonderful gift Peter Tunney has shared with our children—the gift of art!”

Inspired by illustrations found in the 1927 edition of Webster’s International Dictionary, the exhibit showcases the artist’s enthusiasm for language, unique perspective, and creative process. “His work is imaginative, playful, and can be enjoyed by everyone—kids and grownups alike,” said Steve Long, CMEE’s president. “As champions of literacy, this exhibit truly is a perfect fit for CMEE. We are absolutely thrilled to host Dictionary Daze at the Museum this summer.”

The 13 pieces—as well the order in which they are displayed— on exhibit during the first half of the season have been meticulously curated and hung by students from the Ross School under the guidance of Nicole Berberana, an art teacher at the school. “I was excited for the opportunity to share with my students an experience involving such an incredibly talented artist. I loved getting outside the classroom, moving beyond the theory, and watching them apply what they’ve learned during this project. ”

A reception and kid-friendly art project with the artist is scheduled for August 1st from 4pm – 6pm.
