Digital Media & Marketing

The Children’s Museum of the East End seeks a Digital Media & Marketing Intern to assist with online marketing efforts. The position is ideal for someone who is interested in furthering his or her education and experience through exposure to various aspects of digital media. The role will provide opportunities to “learn by doing” under close supervision with constructive feedback.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Participate in creative team brainstorming sessions.
  • Aid in the development and execution of outreach messages (specifically, e-mail newsletters and e-blasts).
  • Help expand, manage, and monitor the Museum’s social media channels including Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram.
  • Periodic website and content audits.
  • Shadow calls and attend internal meetings.
  • Research cultural institutions, local media companies, and area businesses for potential partnerships.
  • Participate in planning and conceptual design for online initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated interest in Marketing, Communications, and/or Nonprofit Management
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, with extensive knowledge of the Web and Social Media
  • Familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite
  • Spanish speaking a plus

Development & Fundraising 

The Children’s Museum of the East End is looking for an undergraduate student in the Long Island area who shows an interest in Fundraising, Event Planning and/or Non-profit Management.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist with fundraising, event mailings and special projects as needed.
  • Conduct research on potential donors and sponsors, business partners and institutional funders.
  • Assist with special event planning and implementation including solicitation of auction items.
  • Assist with the preparation of acknowledgement letters, membership renewal mailings, filing documents and other donor correspondence.

Qualifications 

  • Organized and dependable, with high attention to detail
  • Positive, fun-loving attitude, and a strong desire to learn about fundraising
  • Responsible and eager to take initiative
  • Excellent phone etiquette
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite is a must, especially Excel
  • High level of professionalism, be on time, meet deadlines, and follow-through
  • Performs well in environment that values creativity, flexibility, enthusiasm, and adaptability

The Intern will have the opportunity to work in a fun, playful environment, learn new skills and assist the Education Coordinator by The intern will gain valuable knowledge of early childhood programming in a non-profit setting, curriculum design, child development and skills necessary to develop and foster strong, valuable relationships with children and their caregivers.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Executing special projects
  • Assisting in daily programming
  • Participating community events planning and event day procedures
  • Assisting lead educators in daily summer programs
  • Facilitating and documenting check-in and check-out processes
  • Weekly shopping and program inventory
  • Curriculum design and implementation in children’s art studio.
  • Solicit feedback from daily programs and special events

Qualifications 

  • Organized and dependable, with attention to detail
  • Positive attitude
  • Desire to learn new things, driven to improve
  • Classroom experience is a plus
  • Comfortable singing, dancing, and being silly
  • Must have high-energy, sense of humor and playful spirit
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Experience working with children and families

Education Requirements

College students working toward degree in Education, Child Development, Theater, or child psychology. Graduate students are welcomed to apply.

Gallery Management

The Elaine Benson Gallery and the Children’s Museum of the East End are seeking a Gallery Management Intern for the summer of 2017. Working closely with Kimberly Goff, renowned curator, artist and photographer, the Intern will assist with the planning and implementation of three art exhibitions at the Museum in Bridgehampton. The number of hours per week is flexible and the intern should ideally receive academic credit.

Responsibilities for the Gallery Management Intern include all aspects of producing and organizing art shows:

  • Correspondence with the artists
  • Possible studio visits
  • Understanding how to design announcements
  • Publicity
  • How to write a press release
  • Work with social media, direct mailing, and evites to promote shows
  • Digital photography
  • Hanging or installing artwork
  • Distribution of promotional materials (postcards, posters, flyers)
  • Attending and troubleshooting Opening Receptions

The Intern may also have the opportunity to work with the archives of the Elaine Benson Gallery that was in business from 1965-2006 in Bridgehampton and worked with most of the artists living and working in the area.

Some work will be offsite and not at the Museum so the prospective intern must have her/his own transportation.

Office Administration

The Office Administration Internship Program will provide parents of school age children an opportunity to acquire beginning office skills in a not for profit environment. The intern will work with Museum Office Staff to improve the efficiency of Museum support services. She/he will learn to work with a diverse staff, understand the Museum’s daily office and support routines, and provide service to professional staff, which will include copying, printing, supply inventory and program set-up.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Learn the mechanics and flow of a not for profit organization.
  • Assist in the daily needs of the Museum office and professional staff.
  • Prioritize staff requests.
  • Assist in the inventory and ordering of supplies.
  • Suggest and implement improvements in systems with the consent of her supervisor.
  • Maintain a consistent schedule and professional demeanor.

Visitor Experience

The Children’s Museum of the East End is looking for a high school or undergraduate student in the Long Island to work in a fun, playful environment, learn new skills, and directly assist the Visitor Experience Coordinator by taking ownership of a wide range of projects.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that exhibit materials are working as intended, and are properly laid out for visitors to use.
  • Help set up for programs so that the space looks inviting.
  • Report any exhibit maintenance issues to the Visitor Experience Coordinator.
  • Help to develop programs and presentations that focus on specific topics or exhibits.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Visitor Experience Coordinator.

Qualifications

  • Detail oriented
  • Interest in learning
  • Must be able to work individually as well as with a team
  • Outgoing personality
  • Spanish speaking a plus

Education/Work Experience Requirements

  • Ideal for high school students who are able to commit 1-2 days per week.
