Letter from the Director – April 2013

Dear Friends,

Happy spring! Thank you to everyone who visited last week during Spring Break and helped make our new “drop off” program such an enormous success!  This month, we have more great programs scheduled, including CMEE’s inaugural Egg Drop Challenge and our annual Jackson Pollock Day.  Looking forward this spring, we’re excited to host Peconic Family Fun Day with so many terrific environmental education organizations on May 4 and to partner on May 11 with Bay Street Theatre on a professional production of Martha Speaks. Both family events are a fun way to start celebrating Mother’s Day.

At the annual “CMEE in the City” dinner on March 7, CMEE was thrilled to honor Jackie Lowey, Trustee Emerita for her years of advocacy on behalf of CMEE. Thank you to George Stephanopoulos and Ali Wentworth for helping to salute Jackie. With her leadership, CMEE grew from a concept and a “museum without walls” to one of the most visited museums in Eastern Long Island. Jackie continues to be a wonderful advocate for the community by serving as a member of the East Hampton School Board and consulting for charitable organizations throughout the East End.

Thank you to actor, Richard Kind for serving as a fantastic master of ceremonies. During his remarks, he described the three hardest things to do in the world – 1) go shopping in a mall on the Friday after Thanksgiving, 2) get a hotel room at the Super Bowl, and 3) finding a parking spot at CMEE on a rainy day. Of course, as he went on to say, CMEE is much more than a rainy day destination. Fundraising events like “CMEE in the City,” our golf outing at the Maidstone Club on June 10, and CMEE’s Family Fair on July 20 help support CMEE’s classes, performances, and exhibits, as well as its vital community partnerships with Flying Point Foundation for Autism, Long Island Head Start, and the Retreat.

During the evening, guests had the opportunity to enjoy wine generously donated by Amagansett Wine and Spirits. To help continue supporting the Museum, Amagansett Wine is offering “Wine for a Cause,” where CMEE patrons can purchase the wines provided during “CMEE in the City” at an incredible discount with a portion of the proceeds going back to CMEE. Details are available here.

I look forward to seeing you soon at CMEE!

Sincerely,

Stephen Long
