On Thursday, November 13th, families in CMEE’s after school science program for Spanish speakers–Ciencia–headed to Manhattan to visit the American Museum of Natural History. Lead by CMEE’s director of Community Outreach, Leah Oppenheimer, the 22 children and 18 adults who attended the field trip were given a personal tour of the Hall of Biodiversity, Hall of North American Forests, Hall of Ocean Life, and treated to an IMAX show about the Great White Shark. Looks like they had an incredible time!

A special thanks to Clara Oppenheimer from Pierson High School for her help in chaperoning, Barbara Blaisdell, a co-teacher with the Ciencias program, and the AMNH scientists and administrators, Dr. Robbert Steiner, Natalie Tahsler, Dr. Jane Kloecker, and Dr. Adriana Aquino, who were instrumental in planning and facilitating the group visit.

We would also like to thank the Long Island Community Foundation for their ongoing support of Ciencia en CMEE.
