“Science Connections” at Project Most

projectmost-012

The Children’s Museum of the East End launched “Science Connections” at Project Most in East Hampton earlier this fall. Made possible with a grant from the Institute of Library and Museum Services, the after school, family program is designed to promote science literacy in a cross-cultural, interactive environment. We recently spoke with Project Most’s Kristin LaMonda Alversa and Malany Perez about the exciting collaboration and their experience so far.

Kristin LaMonda Alversa

“I was thrilled when I heard when we were going to do this. Working with such a well known program like the Museum is an amazing opportunity. There’s not a single student in East Hampton who doesn’t know and love CMEE. It really is the perfect collaboration. The kids love it. The parents love it. We’re seeing big groups every week. I wish we had something like this when I was in elementary school.”

Malany Perez

“Even within the first class, you could really see a change in the students. They became more talkative. They became more social. It’s great to see them excited about science, but I love hearing them laugh and watching them make new friends. I’m also learning from them. When you’re an adult, you’re expected to learn from people your own age or older. The kids in Science Connections, though, are always asking questions that make me think in new ways.”

In addition to Project Most, the Museum has partnered with the Southampton Youth Bureau to present “Science Connections” at the Flanders Community Center. In early 2017, the program will expand to include families from the Bridgehampton Child Care and Recreation Center and Springs School.
