JANUARY 2019 – LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

Happy New Year! We asked children visiting the Museum during our New Year’s Eve “Ball Drop” celebration to write a resolution for 2019. You can see them displayed in the Museum’s lobby and posted on our Facebook page. Some of my favorites included “Be less shy”, “Learn my multiplication tables”, “Be kind” and “Eat more cake.” Eating more cake is a resolution that my two-year-old son could keep easily. The first thing he asked when he learned that we were heading to a New Year’s Eve party was whether there would be cake. (He attended way too many birthday parties in 2018.)

Even though less than 10% of New Year’s resolutions are successful, I still asked my colleagues at CMEE to identify resolutions they wanted to see us make in 2019. Some of the goals they identified were:

  • Increase the number of families who use their EBT (Electronic Benefits Transfer) cards to access the Museum by 25%.
  • Refurbish CMEE’s backyard.
  • Increase the number of underserved families who participate in computer coding program.
  • Open the Museum’s satellite location in Riverside.
  • Decrease single use plastics at the Museum.
  • Introduce more theater programming, especially for older children.

I’ll keep you posted on our success rate during the year. If you have resolution to recommend for CMEE in 2019, please feel free to send me a message directly or share it on our Instagram or Facebook page.

Sincerely,
Steve
