CMEE’s new Education Coordinator

VanessaCMEE is thrilled to welcome Vanessa Geppert as the Museum’s new Education Coordinator. In her new capacity, she directs the Museum’s programming, including its classes, workshops, performances, and special events. In addition to developing a full calendar of programs this winter, Vanessa is already planning the Museum’s summer schedule. You can begin signing up for summer classes at CMEE later this month.

Vanessa has deep roots in the East End community. She’s the mother of three teenagers and has been a full-time resident for over twenty years. Her interest in teaching goes back to her childhood.  “I remember as an eight year old, teaching my younger friends how to read.” After her children started school, Vanessa volunteered in their classrooms. “I loved being in the schools so much that volunteer work was not enough!”  So, while attending graduate school at Long Island University, Vanessa worked at East Hampton’s John Marshall Elementary School as a paraprofessional for five years. After graduating, she taught Kindergarten at John Marshall Elementary School and then at Orchard View Elementary School in Delray Beach, Florida.

Vanessa 2When asked what drew her to CMEE, Vanessa says “As a mother and an educator, I have a great appreciation for purposeful play and guided discovery.  CMEE is a wonderful place for young children to explore. I believe it also serves as a community center for our local families. The Museum hosts wonderful programs year round. My favorite part of being here at CMEE is watching children having fun, being adventurous, being creative and sometimes being messy.”
