Meet the Museum’s new Director of Operations, Daphne Gil

683fcdd5-a9d8-4e07-ae69-a4bd1bd241cfFollowing a career writing plays, running day cares, and, most recently, managing Head Start centers throughout Long Island, Daphne Gill steps into the role as the Museum’s Director of Operations. She took a break during her first week on the job to chat with us about childhood education, her experience so far, and the impact she hopes to make on the Museum.

How did your interest in childhood education come about?

“I’ve been fascinated with the importance of early childhood education since my son was young and enrolled in Head Start. Head Start made such an impact that I thought, “I need to find a way to pay this back.”  So, when I went back to work after being an at-home mom, I focused on kids. Between running day cares and managing Head Starts, the last decade has been focused on helping families and children. When I saw this position opened up at the Museum, I jumped at the opportunity.

You’ve only been with us for a short while, but what’s your experience been like so far?

I attended Summer Ladies Night and the Family Fair, so I’ve been having fun here before I even officially started. From the first meeting I attended, I knew it was a great fit, Just hearing different ideas, different perspectives, and different voices has been incredible. It’s nice to work with such an eclectic and welcoming group of people.

What impact do you hope to make on the Museum?

I want our guests to be completely enveloped by the experience of the Museum and ensure their visits are as smooth and carefree. My goal is to help everyone who works here make that happen.
