Position: Visitor Experience Coordinator

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Visitor Experience Coordinator is responsible for the active engagement of visitors at the Museum, ensuring they are welcomed in a safe and fun environment. Leading by example and spending as much time as possible on the floor of the Museum interacting with visitors, the Visitor Experience Coordinator is tasked with enabling children at the Museum to have the time of their lives.

Specific responsibilities:

  • Recruit, train, schedule, and retain a diverse visitor services team (including reception and floor staff) with sales strengths and friendly, outgoing personalities.
  • Oversee the sales and implementation of Museum membership programs.
  • Supervise reception desk, set up/closeout daily admissions including financial reconciliation.
  • Recruit, coordinate and support volunteers and interns, placing them within the appropriate Museum department where they can work most effectively.
  • Manage Patron Manager to ensure all admissions, memberships, classes, events and other museum sales are accurately processed and recorded.
  • Oversee the resetting of exhibit props and other materials on a regular basis.
  • Communicate potential or active problems with exhibitions or facilities to the Director of Operations and the Facilities & Exhibitions Associate.
  • Communicate with the Director of Marketing about any issues regarding Museum promotional materials including brochures, signage, etc.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Education to supervise and model best practices for floor staff and volunteers to promote learning through play (observe, coach, evaluate and help train).
  • Collaborate with the Director of Education on the planning and management of community events at the Museum or offsite.
  • Act as Manager of Day on weekends and holidays, overseeing museum operations pertaining to visitor services.
  • Supervise the scheduling, staffing, and implementation of birthday parties at the Museum.
  • Assist in additional tasks as assigned by Director of Operations.


  • A Bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years of work experience in education, museums or customer service setting.
  • Self-starter with great organizational skills; the ability to prioritize with attention to detail.
  • Experience in supervising and training staff.
  • Personable with the ability to interact diplomatically with public.
  • Must be a responsive team member and have both the interest and experience working with children and families.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse audiences, including individuals from different backgrounds, ages and abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write, edit, and proof correspondence and documents.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and database management

Position:  Part-Time Front Desk Personnel & Per Diem Front Desk Personnel 

As a public face of the Children’s Museum, this position is responsible for welcoming and processing visitors, answering phones, and assisting with the day-to-day operation of the Museum. On occasion, s/he may also assist with birthday parties, classroom activities, and exhibit support.

Specific responsibilities:

  • Welcome visitors and process admissions and memberships.
  • Answer telephone, screen and direct calls.
  • Assist with reservations for programs, birthday parties, and special events.
  • Promote memberships, events, and programs at the Museum.
  • Respond to visitor’s inquiries and comments.
  • Reset exhibit materials as needed and monitor exhibits on a regular basis, reporting items in need of repair to the Exhibits and Education Coordinator.
  • Assist the Program Coordinator with ongoing programs and classes as needed.
  • Assist visitors with expanding their depth of experience with various aspects of exhibits.
  • Assist with support of volunteer program, including communication, support, planning and cultivation.
  • Participate in special events and functions as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Visitor Services Coordinator


Able to process information and sales quickly, accurately, and efficiently; possess excellent interpersonal skills and friendly demeanor; able to multitask and work in a fast paced environment; able to work varied hours/days, including weekends and holidays, as needed. Bachelor of Arts/Science highly desired.

Position: Part-Time Floor Staff

Floor Staff create and maintain a physical environment that is comfortable, engaging, and fun for both children and adults.

Specific responsibilities:

  • Clean and reset exhibit materials at least once an hour, and more often as needed
  • Ensure that exhibit materials are clean work as intended, and are properly laid out for visitors to use.
  • Help set up for programs so that the space looks inviting.
  • Report any exhibit maintenance issues to the Visitor Experience Coordinator
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Visitor Experience Coordinator

  • Spanish speaking ability
  • Outgoing personality
