Position: Marketing and Digital Content Director

The Children’s Museum of the East End seeks an energetic, talented and resourceful individual to provide digital content and communications support. Reporting to the President, the Marketing and Digital Content Director works with staff, trustees, and outside consultants to plan and implement the Museum’s marketing and promotional activities.

 Responsibilities include the following:

  • Oversee the development, writing, translation and distribution of marketing & communications materials, e.g. digital content, flyers, signage, brochures, program calendars, press releases, etc.
  • Update CMEE website daily/weekly, and oversee the development of a new Museum website.
  • Manage the Museum’s social media activities.
  • Oversee the Museum’s membership program, including mailings, data tracking and benefit offerings.
  • Work with Development Director to cultivate and solicit business sponsorships.
  • Oversee the functioning of the Museum’s software system that integrates admissions, memberships, fundraising, and email marketing.
  • Serve as primary liaison to Museum’s IT and database consultants.
  • Serve as a liaison to press, potential new audiences, and PR consultants.
  • Oversee the implementation of the Museum’s re-branding efforts.
  • Work with the Education Director to manage CMEE’s outreach to schools and other audiences.
  • Assist with special events and programs (including some night and weekend events).
  • Conduct market research and develop marketing plans for new Museum initiatives.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Detail oriented, creative, self-motivated, and a sense of humor
  • Commitment to the organization, strong written and oral communication skills; must be able to effectively interact with a wide variety of people; able to prioritize projects and manage a heavy workload
  • Experience in web design using WordPress and ancillary programs
  • Experience with email marketing tools, especially MailChimp
  • Knowledge of social media marketing
  • Strong computer skills working in Microsoft Word, Outlook; and Excel
  • Ability to work occasional nights & weekends on special events
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or 3 years related experience in marketing, digital content, public relations or advertising, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Interact closely as a team player
  • Familiarity with PatronManager software a big plus
  • Fluency in Spanish is highly desirable

As a public face of the Children’s Museum, this position is responsible for welcoming and processing visitors, answering phones, and assisting with the day-to-day operation of the Museum. On occasion, s/he may also assist with birthday parties, classroom activities, and exhibit support.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Welcome visitors and process admissions and memberships.
  • Answer telephone, screen and direct calls.
  • Assist with reservations for programs, birthday parties, and special events.
  • Promote memberships, events, and programs at the Museum.
  • Respond to visitor’s inquiries and comments.
  • Reset exhibit materials as needed and monitor exhibits on a regular basis, reporting items in need of repair to the Exhibits and Education Coordinator.
  • Assist the Program Coordinator with ongoing programs and classes as needed.
  • Assist visitors with expanding their depth of experience with various aspects of exhibits.
  • Assist with support of volunteer program, including communication, support, planning and cultivation.
  • Participate in special events and functions as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Visitor Services Coordinator


Able to process information and sales quickly, accurately, and efficiently; possess excellent interpersonal skills and friendly demeanor; able to multitask and work in a fast paced environment; able to work varied hours/days, including weekends and holidays, as needed. Bachelor of Arts/Science highly desired.

Position: Part-Time Floor Staff

Floor Staff create and maintain a physical environment that is comfortable, engaging, and fun for both children and adults.

Specific responsibilities:

  • Clean and reset exhibit materials at least once an hour, and more often as needed
  • Ensure that exhibit materials are clean work as intended, and are properly laid out for visitors to use.
  • Help set up for programs so that the space looks inviting.
  • Report any exhibit maintenance issues to the Visitor Experience Coordinator
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Visitor Experience Coordinator

Essential Skills:

  • Detail oriented

Desirable Skills:

  • Spanish speaking ability
  • Outgoing personality

Ideal for a high school student looking for summer, weekend, or holiday work.
