Museum Experience Coordinator

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Visitor Experience Coordinator is responsible for the active engagement of visitors at the Museum, ensuring they are welcomed in a safe and fun environment. Leading by example and spending as much time as possible on the floor of the Museum interacting with visitors, the Museum Experience Coordinator is tasked with enabling children at the Museum to have the time of their lives.

Position Responsibilites:

  • Recruit, train, schedule, and retain a diverse visitor services team (including reception and floor staff) with sales strengths and friendly, outgoing personalities.
  • Oversee the sales and implementation of Museum membership programs.
  • Supervise reception desk, set up/closeout daily admissions including financial reconciliation.
  • Recruit, coordinate and support volunteers and interns, placing them within the appropriate Museum department where they can work most effectively.
  • Manage Patron Manager (the Museum’s POS system) to ensure all admissions, memberships, classes, events and other museum sales are accurately processed and recorded.
  • Oversee the resetting of exhibit props and other materials on a regular basis.Communicate potential or active problems with exhibitions or facilities to the Director of Operations and the Facilities & Exhibitions Associate.
  • Communicate with the Director of Marketing about any issues regarding Museum promotional materials including brochures, signage, etc.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Education to supervise and model best practices for floor staff and volunteers to promote learning through play (observe, coach, evaluate and help train).
  • Collaborate with the Director of Education on the planning and management of community events at the Museum or offsite.
  • Act as Manager of Day on weekends and holidays, overseeing museum operations pertaining to visitor services.
  • Supervise the scheduling, staffing, and implementation of birthday parties at the Museum.
  • Assist in additional tasks as assigned by the Director of Operations.

Qualifications:

  • An outgoing, positive personality and ability to connect with many people of many backgrounds.
  • Minimum of two years working with children in another Museum or cultural institution, retail, preschool or daycare, afterschool, summer camp, or other family-oriented settings, and supervisory experience.
  • Punctual and detail-oriented.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to present information to visitors and staff.
  • Experience in guest management, hospitality, or customer service is preferred.
  • Able to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Must have the ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Must have the ability to bend, kneel, and lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Able to work weekends, holidays and school breaks.
  • Bilingual/Multilingual preferred.

Play Worker - Part Time

As the public face of the Children’s Museum, PLAY WORKERS are warm, friendly and welcoming to all children and families at the Museum. Play Workers are responsible for engaging in dramatic play with the children as they play through the museum, as well as resetting and restocking the exhibits throughout the day.  On occasion, they assist with birthday parties, special events, and exhibition maintenance.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Welcome visitors in a friendly, professional, and timely manner.
  • Engage in play with children throughout the museum.
  • Respond to visitor inquiries and comments in a professional manner.
  • Maintain current knowledge of Museum programs and events to share with visitors.
  • Reset, restock, and maintain the cleanliness of the museum throughout the day as needed. As well as, assisting with opening and closing procedures for the day.
  • Help maintain social distancing between adult individuals within the exhibits using gentle reminders
  • Frequently clean surfaces, toys, bathroom surfaces within the exhibits and museum.
  • Help clean and sanitize museum experience toys (Play food, Legos, etc) on a frequent and consistent basis.
  • Maintain personal health and hygiene standards set forth by the CDC: Wearing a mask, gloves, frequent hand washing, staying home if you are sick. (CMEE will provide PPE if needed)
  • Help set up for birthdays, programs, and special events.
  • Enforce museum safety rules and guidelines.
  • Participate in special events and functions as required.
  • Report any exhibit maintenance issues to the Visitor Services Coordinator/Museum Experience Coordinator.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Visitor services Coordinator and Museum Experience coordinator.

Qualifications:

  • Creative and enthusiastic about working with young children and families.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to present information to visitors.

  • Must have the ability to bend, kneel, and lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Bilingual/Multilingual preferred.
  • Ideal for high school students.
  • Must be able to legally work in the United States.

Kids Club Educator - Part-Time

Kid’s Club is an eight week summer program offered to children ages 3-5 daily. Kids Club is designed to provide authentic learning experiences that encourage social emotional development, gross motor skills, and language acquisition through guided play-based activities. Kids Club mirrors a typical school day by including circle time, assigning jobs and responsibilities, calendar work, weather, and by following a daily schedule. Kids Club adapts ideas and philosophies of Responsive Classroom and Reggio Emilia.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Prepare lesson plans
  • Create a safe and inclusive classroom environment of respect and rapport
  • Prepare for “Morning meetings”
  • Incorporate educator’s subjects of interest/talents, ie: cooking, sports, gardening, sewing, etc.
  • Organize and prepare materials for daily instruction
  • Daily setup and breakdown of classroom and materials
  • Implement lesson plans
  • Attend meeting and trainings
  • Use effective instructional strategies to meet the needs of students with diverse backgrounds and abilities

Hours

  • Monday through Friday
  • 8:30am-2:30pm

Visitor Services Liaison - Part-Time

The Visitor Services Liaison has primary responsibility for welcoming and receiving patrons when they first contact or enter the Museum. S/he is responsible for processing admissions, selling memberships, answering telephones and providing information about the Museum to visitors. On occasion, the Visitor Services Liaison may assist with birthday parties, special events, and exhibition maintenance.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Welcome visitors in a friendly, warm and professional manner.
  • Orient visitors in the Museum and provide information about events, programs and exhibits.
  • Respond to visitor inquiries and comments.
  • Process visitors and sell tickets and memberships at the front desk.
  • Maintain current knowledge of Museum programs and events to share with visitors.
  • Reset, restock and maintain cleanliness of the Museum throughout the day as needed.
  • Manage opening and closing procedures for the day.
  • Assist with reservations for programs, special events, and birthday parties.
  • Ensure that print materials (posters, fliers, and brochures) are available and displayed in key areas.
  • Assist with data entry or mailings as needed.
  • Enforce museum safety rules and guidelines.
  • Record attendance data or other types of visitor information as assigned.
  • Participate in special events and functions as required.
  • Answer telephone, screen and direct calls.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Visitor services Coordinator and Museum Experience coordinator.

Custodian - Part-Time

Reporting to the Facilities and Exhibits Coordinator, the Custodial Staff is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the Museum’s facility and grounds. In addition, s/he will work with other Custodial Team members during twice annual seasonal deep cleaning of the facility. This is a year-round, part-time position. Night and day shifts available.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring the Museum is clean during hours of operation.
  • Perform weekly cleaning tasks such as restocking cleaning supplies, sanitizing Museum props and toys, and laundering cloth materials.
  • Assist in additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Must have prior professional cleaning experience.
  • Able to follow directions and work well in a fast paced environment.
  • Work weekends and some holidays, as well as one full week in September and one week in May.
  • Prior commercial cleaning experience a plus, but not required. Experience working with or around children also highly desirable.
